About Tihar
Tihar, the festival of lights (also called Deepawali or Yamapanchak), lasts five days. Crows, dogs and cows are honoured on the first days, and homes are lit with lamps for Laxmi Puja, when the goddess of wealth is worshipped.
On Bhai Tika, sisters give their brothers a seven-coloured tika and garlands of makhamali flowers and pray for their long life.
