Romanized Nepali typing: how to type in Nepali
Type each sound with English letters. A consonant followed by another consonant joins with it (s + t = स्त), and a doubled vowel makes it long (kaa = का, kee = की, koo = कू). Capital T, D, N and Sh give the letters ट, ड, ण and ष, so type names in lowercase (dipak = दिपक). Put English words in {curly braces} to keep them as they are.

Frequently asked questions
How do I type in Nepali?
Type the Nepali words using English letters, for example “mero naam” or “dhanyabaad”. The Nepali Unicode text (मेरो नाम, धन्यबाद) appears as you type. Press Copy and paste it anywhere.
What is the Nepali keyboard layout?
Nepali is typed with two common layouts. In the romanized layout, used on this page, each key types the Nepali letter that sounds like it (k = क, m = म). The traditional layout comes from the Nepali typewriter and is used by the Preeti font, where keys don't match the English sounds (k = प). Both layouts are shown on Varpardo.com.
What is Nepali Unicode?
Unicode is the standard way computers store text. Nepali written in Unicode shows correctly on any phone, computer or website without a special font, unlike old font-based typing such as Preeti.
How do I type ट, ड, ण and ष?
Use capital letters: T for ट, Th for ठ, D for ड, Dh for ढ, N for ण and Sh for ष. Lowercase t, th, d, dh, n and sh give त, थ, द, ध, न and श.
How do I type a long vowel like ी or ू?
Double it: ee or ii for ी, oo or uu for ू, and aa for ा. For example, paanee becomes पानी and phool becomes फूल.
How do I write ं, ँ and ः?
Type M for the anusvara ं (saMsaar → संसार), ~ for the chandrabindu ँ (chaa~d → चाँद) and H for the visarga ः (duHkha → दुःख).
Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
